  1. Can't he's telling stories. Stationed at VBG in 1962 as an air traffic contoller (twr operator). Sent to radar for an orintation tour, I witness a permanent target off shore in W-532 air space, it was within the Air Defence Intercept Zone, so fighters were scrambled from Oxnard AF ADC base, The aircaft contacted VBG radar approach control. Being a trainee I could only observe. The fighters were vectored to unknown target, I don't remember how close they got , when lead transmitted he had the target in sight. At that time the unknown target moved about 15 miles in one sweep of the radar and then stopped. Lead aircraft advised he was returning to base, VBG request what the target
was only to be told again He was returning to VBG, then changed freq. I don't know if this was documented in the facility log. ......In 1966 after a two year tour in Korea I returned to VBG. Now rate as a skilled contoller and rated in the approch contol postion, my flight data man adv me base ops had a call from a civilian in Lompoc, small city about 10 miles SE of VBG. they were observing something in their general vacinity. At this time I was providing flt following for general aviation fly down the coast, He had request to cut across the restricted area, having no other traffic permission was granted The civilians spotted the aircraft and advised he was headed in the general direction of unkown target, which our radar was not picking up. The pilot adv he thought he had the target in sight which was lower than himself or it could be a Street light, shortly after this transmission, civilian and pilot reported the target disappeared. Not being the crew chief, I do not if the incident was loged.
